Fender Mustang Rewiring I
Here's another diagram for rewiring a Mustang. This layout has the advantage of not requiring the Fender S-1 switch which is not cheap. You can get by with rewiring the switches only. The neck switch positions are off, on in-phase, on out-of-phase while the bridge positions are off, parallel, series. The one aspect of this layout that I don't like, as with the original Mustang wiring, is that you can't select the pickups with one switch.

So does this allow you to still get all the stock sounds--each pickup on, off, and both pickups together in phase or out of phase? Plus the series and parallel options? Or do you lose some of the stock sounds?

ReplyDeleteGreat Mod! Do you have to change to switch positions (from on-off-on to on-on-off)? I'd like to leave as much stock as possible, but still do the series mod. Theoretically one could just mod the existing out-of phase bridge switch position to series (in phase)? Right? Please let me know your thoughts. Much Thanks
ReplyDeleteHi Brian. You can definitely leave the neck pickup switch stock and only mod the bridge pickup switch. It might even be possible to have the middle position be off and one direction series, the other parallel, but I'm going to have to think about that more!
ReplyDeleteHey Chip,
ReplyDeleteI just commented on the Rewire II page, and then I discovered this. What's the difference between the Mustang Rewire I and the Mustang Rewire II?
I know the II has the S-1 switch, but I guess I'm confused as to how/why you didn't need on this mod versus the II mod.
Any info is much appreciated. Been wanting to do this mod for sooo long (like years) and these two mods are EXACTLY how I would want it done. It's been very difficult to find info on this mod for some reason.
Thank you!
